Prior to being appointed to work on the Rome project, Gino Coppedè had established himself as a sought-after architect in Genoa where he had designed Mackenzie Castle. Thus, after many objections and disputes, the local town planning board granted approval to the project on condition that Coppedè’s designs for the new district reflected the architecture of Rome. The end result is Coppedè’s buildings are an incredible mix of styles which include Liberty and Art Decò as well as hints of ancient Greek, Gothic, Baroque and medieval styles.
